Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo announced that he will be running for a second term in office at a Trans-Canada Highway upgrade presentation, Thursday.

The first-term MLA believes there’s still work to be done in the Shuswap and said he’s enjoyed his time with the Liberal party.

Kyllo is also the president of Twin Anchors Houseboats, a houseboat-rental company in Sicamous, and he’s had to adjust from being the president of a private company to the public sphere.

“Being president of the company and having that decision-making ability, you know, things happen at a little bit of a quicker pace when it’s your own corporation.”

Overall, he’s running because of his belief in the party.

“Our leadership, the strength of our team. I’m glad to be part of that team and there’s lots more work to be done.”

He also wants to be involved with the new highway upgrade in Salmon Arm.

The project is estimated to continue for another five to six years.

“It’s one thing to announce it, but I’d also like to be here as the project moves forward and then to also to continue to identify other opportunities for the Shuswap,” he said.

Times have changed for Kyllo since the beginning of his first term, as his family continues to grow.

“Three years ago when my wife and I announced to run… our youngest daughter was graduating. We now have six grandchildren, and that obviously changes the family dynamic, and I have business interests in Sicamous, but our premier is an amazing leader and we’ve got an amazing team.”

The next provincial election is scheduled for May 9, 2017.
