It’s a boy!

Gavin Allan Melmac was the first baby born in Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Jan. 1 at 6:38 a.m.

He’s been enjoying cuddle time with his mother, Brenda and grandparents Jackie and Ted Chambers. Both mom and baby are doing well back at home in Salmon Arm.

Gavin was a few hours behind the province’s first baby who made a very early 2015 arrival five seconds after midnight.

That little boy was born at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock.

The Ministry of Health says the ‘New Year’s baby’ is annual tradition that symbolizes the start of the New Year and represents the first of the nearly 44,000 babies that are expected to be born in British Columbia in 2015.
