Downtown Golden is in the middle of a four to six week construction project that has ripped up the sidewalks on 9th Avenue North.

“They’re replacing sections of the sidewalk and curbing,” said Chris Cochran, manager of operations with the Town of Golden. The project was undertaken to fix the “substantial frost heaving.”

“It had impacted some of the door ways, and it was creating some tripping hazards,” said Cochran.

The contractor is replacing the gravels, and re-pouring sections of the sidewalk. This is just one section of work the city has planned for this project. When they’re done, they will pack up and move down the street in front of DJ’s Paper Place.

This undertaking is a regular capital project from the town budget. And the contractor has been very good about minimizing the inconvenience to the businesses affected says Cochran.

“They’ve built walking bridges to each of the businesses, and he’s been pretty good about communicating with the business owners,” he said.

The project is expected to be complete by mid-October.
