Sign policy proceeds

A policy will be drafted so Coldstream staff can possibly sanction the hanging of banners for fundraisers

Individuals wanting to promote special events may have to follow new procedures in Coldstream.

A policy will be drafted so staff can possibly sanction the hanging of banners for fundraisers and other activities. Currently, council must approve a sign permit.

“It doesn’t need to come to council,” said Coun. Peter McClean of trying to simplify the process for groups.

Mayor Jim Garlick is also interested in pursuing  another strategy.

“In the city (of Vernon), they have an application, and if it meets the requirements, the posting is allowed,” he said.

Council has approved a controlled sign permit so the Wellspring Foundation for Education can post a banner on the Kal Beach fence from June 15 to July 15.

The banner will promote the Lake2Lake Ride for Rwanda.

“Council granted permission for the same request for the hospice society for the past three years, as well as the ALS Society this year,” said Bob Bibby, the district’s building official.
