The Comox Valley RCMP is asking the public to keep an eye out for a vehicle with a large number of wood panels in the area of Brooklyn Elementary after a significant amount of cedar boards were stolen from the school.
Const. Monika Terragni of the RCMP said the theft of boards from the school was reported to police on Oct. 5, but occurred sometime throughout the previous weekend.
“It is likely the suspect(s) would have required a vehicle to transport all of it,” she noted and encouraged anyone in the area who may have surveillance at their home or inside their vehicle to review the footage and report any suspicious activity to police.
A post on the Brooklyn Elementary PAC Facebook page has been shared more than 225 times as of Tuesday afternoon, which noted the locked scooter cage behind the school was broken into where the cedar boards were stolen. The wood had just been delivered for two projects.
The wood was set to be used to build garden beds for all the divisions in the school garden located at 1290 Guthrie Rd. along with a Gaga Ball pit – a version of dodge ball with a soft foam ball played in an octagonal pit.
“The PAC works very hard to raise money for school projects with countless volunteer hours by school families. The money we used to buy the wood was earned through volunteer fundraising work like hot lunch,” read the post.
“We just want our wood back because that is a lot of hotdogs.”
They added on the chance the wood was taken accidentally or if someone mistook it for leftover wood from the school district to reach out to the school for its return.
