Simpson supporters take next steps

Supporters of Independent MLA Bob Simpson filed papers today to formally establish a constituency association with Elections BC.

This step is required before those supporting the Independent MLA can raise money, issue tax receipts, and organize for the next provincial election.

The group supporting MLA Simpson believes Cariboo North has been well served by him and he is the best person to continue to represent this riding after the next election.

They also believe that as an Independent Simpson is free to fully represent the interests and needs of this region because he isn’t constrained by partisan politics.

“An Independent does not have divided loyalties and will never have to choose the interests of a political party over those of his constituents,” chairperson Keith Sandve said.

“One hundred percent of an Independent MLA’s time is spent on constituency concerns or broader public policy issues that matter to all British Columbians.”

The group supporting Simpson also believes people are desperate for change in the political system.

People are tired of the perpetual electioneering and petty partisanship that has become the norm in politics and that is driving people away from the ballot box.

“Having an Independent on the ballot in Cariboo North will give people an opportunity to re-engage in our democracy without having to support the party system, which has undermined our democratic institutions in recent years,” association’s outreach coordinator Cinnamon Neumeyer

said.

People from all political backgrounds are welcome to join the new association, volunteer, or donate to MLA Simpson’s campaign can contact the new organization by email: cariboonorthindependentmla@gmail.com
