Six candidates hope to win Mission mayor’s seat

Nominations have closed, campaign to begin, election day is April 24

Mission will have to choose betwen six candidates when deciding who the next mayor will be.

The by-election nomination period ended today (March 19) at 4 p.m. with six candidates vying for the empty mayor’s chair.

In alphabetical order, the mayoral hopefuls are:

  • Earl Babich
  • Paul Horn
  • Rhett Nicholson
  • Dave Perritt
  • Colin Renkema
  • Nelson Tilbury

Mission voters will go to the polls on Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Advance voting will take place at the Mission Leisure Centre, 7650 Grand Street from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 14, April 17 and April 18.

For this by-election, all eligible voters have the opportunity to cast their vote by mail.

All requests for a mail ballot package must be received no later than 4 p.m. on April 22. You can request a package by:

• telephoning Election Headquarters at 604-820-3705

Mail ballot packages will be sent out by mail commencing on or about April 1

Packages requested after 4 p.m. on April 9, 2021 must be picked up at Mission Municipal Hall. The deadline to pick up a mail ballot package is 4 p.m. on April 23, 2021.

To be counted for the by-election, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8 p.m. on April 24.

It is the responsibility of the elector to return the ballot by this deadline.
