Skeena Valley Farmers Market will return to George Little Park’s parking lot next month with pandemic protocols in place.
“We are aiming toward a May 1, opening,” said Norman Frank, president of the Skeena Valley Farmers Market.
The market season this year will see some changes to accommodate COVID-19 safety protocols as prescribed by the provincial health authorities.
“We were delayed until June 13 last season as we had to do a lot of planning to meet the Covid-19 restrictions. This year, because we are now familiar with the Covid plan, unless the B.C. CDC changes our game we indeed will open with local farmers, food vendors as well as local craft vendors,” said Frank.
One of the main changes this year includes a mandatory safety-health check for vendors arriving at the entrance each Saturday.
“There will be a 24 x 36 sign we are having made which they can read while in their vehicle. It is the same safety check that each city employee has to read when they arrive at work each day.”
People attending the market will be required to sign a contact tracing list.
“To further prevent people from congregating in the market area the organizers will be doing an ongoing head count throughout the busy 10:30-12:30 times and restrict the crowd to 100 people,” said Frank.
