It’s exactly the news skiers wanted to hear.
Snowfall allowed Silver Star Mountain Resort to become fully operational Friday.
“Things are just amazing up here,” said Anne Haight, sales and marketing director.
“It’s what we needed just in time.”
As of Friday, there was a 100-centimetre base at the resort.
All 12 of the lifts are operating, with 100 alpine runs open for skiing and snowboarding, along with 53 kilometres of nordic trails.
Haight was one of the first to hit the slopes Friday.
“It was fantastic, really,” she said.
“There was lots of choice as to where to ski first. I enjoyed boot-deep powder atop groomed runs. I call that hero snow. It’s the best snow of the season that I have skied yet. And returning to the office, there were still fresh tracks to be had on the Vance Creek runs even after 10 a.m.”
The Rockstar Terrain Park, Tube Town, and Brewer’s skating pond are also open, with the Summit, Silver Queen and Discovery Carpet providing night skiing from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Putnam Creek opened Friday with the dropping of the rope, which means access to the area is available.
“The dropping of the rope has become Silver Star’s version of the running of the bulls,” said Haight.
“It’s a Putnam Creek tradition as every skier charges ahead to boast first tracks honours.”
Putnam Creek has 1,900 acres of skiable terrain with 90 per cent of its runs categorized as black and double black diamond runs.
This side of the mountain opened in the early 1990s with runs that are long, steep, and serviced by its own high-speed lift, the Powder Gulch Express.
