The family of one of Lake Cowichan’s recent fire victims is reaching out to the community for support in the wake of the devastating event that cost their loved one her home.
On Dec. 7, Janet Faulkner’s entire home on Skutz Falls Road went up in flames. Although the cause of the fire is still unknown, officials believe a wood stove or other heating appliance may have been to blame. In a previous interview with the Gazette, Lake Cowichan Fire Department chief Doug Knott noted that the property was uninsured.
Faulkner’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money they hope will help her bounce back from this unfortunate event.
“She has been a member of the community of Cowichan for many years and loves living in the Valley. Our family has put together a GoFundMe campaign to assist her through this tough time,” her nephew, Myles Marisco, said in an email to the Gazette. “We love our aunt and wish her nothing but the best.”
So far the campaign has raised $400 with a goal of $5,000.
