Volunteers at Macaulay elementary are hoping a few items related to the school’s scrap metal drive will be returned.
The objects, which went missing May 19, include two triangular and one rectangular red welding magnets, used to sort steel and other magnetic ferrous metals from non-ferrous metals like brass.
A sledgehammer belonging to Esquimalt firefighters, who have been helping with the scrap metal drive, is also missing.
“We hope that someone thought they were dropped off as scrap and brought them home,” said Tina Neale, president of the Macaulay Parents Advisory Council. “We also hope they will return them to the fire hall, no questions asked.”
The volunteer team is also reminding people to only drop off their metal donations at the school from 10 to 2 p.m., when there are volunteers available.
“Several items have been dropped off that cost us money to dispose of, (such as) propane canisters,” Neale said.
The scrap metal drive has generated $5,000 for the $30,000 installation of a gravel pathway, as well as boulders and sand for a play space and outdoor classroom.
The last scrap drive drop-off day is Saturday (May 26), across the street from the Esquimalt fire hall, at 500 Park Pl. For information on acceptable items, email macaulaypac@yahoo.ca.
