A parade and wreath-laying ceremony in Williams Lake commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge Sunday.

A parade and wreath-laying ceremony in Williams Lake hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge Sunday.

The colour party, Williams Lake Pipe Band, veterans, legionnaires, 3064 Rocky Mountain Ranger Army cadets and local dignitaries gathered in the parking lot behind the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex at 1 p.m. then marched down Borland Street to the Cenotaph next to city hall for the ceremonies.

The commemoration included Angela Sommer’s Just for Fun Choir singing O’Canada and God Save the Queen, a recount of the events at Vimy Ridge by Commanding Officer of the 3064 Rocky Mountain Ranger Army Cadets by emcee Williams Sheridan, reveille, two minutes of silence and the Lament from the Williams Lake Pipe Band, plus a flyover by the Williams Lake Flying Club.

Following the ceremony at the Cenotaph, the parade proceeded to the legion for camaraderie and refreshments.
