The smell of smoke resulted in the evacuation of a Vernon apartment building Saturday.
Vernon Fire Rescue Services was called to a three-storey building housing five apartments in the 2900 block of 43rd Avenue Saturday afternoon shortly after 4 p.m.
“It turns out there was a small fire behind the stucco at ground level,” said Jack Blair, a deputy chief with Vernon Fire Rescue Services.
There was a small fire burning on the ground and the smell of the smoke resulted in the tenants of the apartment being evacuated for a short time while fire crews put out the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
