Small wildfire sparks near Spuzzum

Cause of fire north of Hope is currently unknown

A small wildfire has sparked north of Hope near Spuzzum.

The Skeemis Creek fire was discovered on Tuesday (July 27) afternoon at 0.01 hectares in size. The suspected cause of the blaze is unknown.

There are three wildfires burning between Hope and North Bend, the biggest being the July Mountain fire at 1,267 hectares. The Spius Creek fire, to the east of North Bend, is 7 hectares in size and has an “out of control” status.

As of publication, there are 254 wildfires burning in B.C. with a total of more than 1,200 this year.
