Smoke advisory still in effect for Quesnel

Environment Canada warns of smoke despite blue skies and sunshine Monday morning

While the sun is shining and blue sky is visible in Quesnel today (Aug. 20), Environment Canada’s air quality advisory is still in effect for the Cariboo.

Updated at 4:03 a.m. this morning, the smoky skies bulletin says smoky air will continue across most of the province for the next few days.

“Local smoke levels may vary based on wind direction and fire characteristics but, until a significant change in the provincial weather pattern occurs, widespread air quality improvements are not expected,” reads the website.

The Air Quality Health Index was rated at 5, moderate risk, this morning at 8 a.m., with forecasted maximums in Quesnel as high as 7, high risk, for the remainder of Monday and into Tuesday.

Rain showers are predicted later in the week, with a 30 per cent chance of showers currently predicted for Thursday night, 40 per cent chance of showers Saturday and 60 per cent chance of rain Sunday.
