Smoke visible over the Fly Hills is coming from Falkland, says fire protection officer Larry Osachoff.
Although the smoke was initially thought to be coming from a fire in the Charcoal Creek drainage area, approximately 10 kilometres west of Salmon Arm, neither ground crews nor air crews were able to find a fire.
The Falkland fire causing the smoke is 32 kilometres from Salmon Arm as the crow flies and is not considered a threat to this area. It is about three kilometres north of Falkland up towards Bolean Lake. The smoke and ash has been whipped up by high winds.
Ground crews are currently fighting the fire.
