February 4 – 13

Thirteen medical calls were dealt with during this time period.

There were four calls pertaining to power line/tree related issues, and one false fire alarm.

Personnel were called out for two cases of “smoke in structure,” the first involving a pot left too long on a stove… the other involving a chimney malfunction. An extra flue in the chimney had not been been properly sealed.

An attempted rescue was begun at the Sooke Potholes.

A pair of hikers, possibly gold panners, had called in for assistance as daylight was disappearing.

Chief Sorensen said the hikers balked when hearing of the rescuers’ plans which involved bringing them across the river, and they found their own way out of their predicament.

Eight burning complaints were also looked into by the department.
