Local residents, and a few members of the general public, got a closer look at what the Sneena Road Overpass Project will involve over the next nine months at an open house Tuesday.
Evelyn Lube, Sneena Road project communications, said the open house was intended for residents living in the area; however, a few members of the general public showed up with other questions related to the project.
According to information presented at the open house, the project will include: An extension of Sneena Road from Nancee Way to Tomat Avenue, an extension of Sneena Road from Westside Road to Highway 97 near Campbell Road, a new overpass at Highway 97, as well as infrastructure upgrades and urbanization of local roadways.
Literature provided warned local residents they can expect construction-related noise, including blasting, which will occur from March until June between noon and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, as required. The blasting will occur along the Nancee Way to Tomat Avenue extension.
Lube said construction on the Sneena Road Overpass Project will officially begin in March.
During construction of the overpass, all traffic will be detoured and the speed limit will be reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h.
“The detour will be all five lanes, both northbound and southbound traffic,” said Lube, who noted the detour will be paved.
“It’s about 350 metres in length; it will see a reduction in speed, right by the overpass construction site of about 10 km/h.”
The Highway 97 detour is expected to be in effect 24/7 from late May until mid October.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by November.
During a December 2013 interview with Capital News, Lube indicated future construction may also take place at the intersection of Boucherie Road and Highway 97; however, that work is in the preliminary stages.
“That would be the last part of this agreement,” said Lube.
