Quick action kept fire from destroying a Lumby garage Monday.
A neighbour was driving by when he noticed smoke and flames coming from a residential shop just after 1:30 p.m. on Horner Road. He stopped, notified the owner and they threw snow on the blaze.
“That saved the shop,” said Tony Clayton, Lumby fire chief.
The building damages are valued at about $2,000.
“One wall took some flames,” said Clayton.
“It could have been worse because there was a collector car in there as well as a boat and tools.”
The cause of the blaze is being linked to an outside meat smoker.
“The smoker got too hot and caught the side of the shop on fire,” said Clayton.
