Snow remains in the forecast for the rest of Sunday.
Environment Canada updated its snowfall warning early Sunday morning, predicting that snow squalls won’t dissipate until Monday morning.
Nanaimo and Nanoose Bay could see 5-15 centimetres accumulate in some areas during the day and tonight.
“The snow squalls will tend to be localized but could nevertheless produce significant snowfall accumulations for sections of East Vancouver Island from Nanaimo to Qualicum Beach,” noted the warning.
Environment Canada reminded people to prepare for travel conditions and Mainroad Mid-Island, the region’s highways contractor, said in an advisory that vehicle lights and windshield wipers should be in good working order and a vehicle emergency kit should be stocked up.
“Accumulations are not forecasted to be heavy at this time but wet slushy snow and slippery conditions are possible. Higher elevations and passes may see higher snowfall amounts,” noted the advisory.
