A 27-year-old man is dead after a snowboarding accident Friday morning at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
The incident happened on Jan. 10 at around 10 a.m. when some skiers found a lone male injured at the side of the Devil’s Club run on the upper portion of the resort, said Rob Elliott, the general manager of the resort.
Ski patrol, RCMP and EHS responded to help the 27-year-old male but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
No details were provided on how the man fell or the cause of death. Officials said he appeared to be snowboarding alone and they were looking to speak to people who might have seen him crash.
He was not wearing a helmet, said Cpl. Thomas Blakney of the Revelstoke RCMP.
The man’s identity is not being released pending notification of his family. Elliott said he was a season-pass holder from outside Canada.
The incident is still being investigated.
RCMP and Revelstoke Mountain Resort have asked skiers and snowboarders to dress appropriately for conditions, wear a helmet and ride with friends.
Update: A previous version of this article said the snowboarder was found by an off-duty patroller. In fact, the snowboarder was found by some passing skiers. The patroller stopped to help them.
