Snowfall warning in effect for Highway 1

Motorists should take notice of a snowfall warning in effect for the Trans Canada Highway.

Anyone heading in or out of the Columbia-Kootenays and/or Alberta should take notice of a snowfall warning in effect for Highway 1.

For the last two days, Environment Canada has warned of a long period of extended snowfall in the region with total amounts of 25 to 30 centimetres expected by Wednesday morning.

“Snow will continue over the Trans Canada Highway – Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass as a Pacific frontal system crosses the Interior,” writes Environment Canada.

“The snow is expected to ease Tuesday afternoon then re-develop Tuesday evening. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”
