There is a snowfall warning in effect for the north and south Cariboo, including Quesnel and Williams Lake, as of 3:45 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 27).
According to Environment Canada, the warning is for a long period of snowfall with a total amount between 15 and 25 centimetres. The warning also says visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
A low pressure system will move across central B.C. on Friday and Saturday, with snow expected to begin on Friday morning and intensify Friday night. Snow will ease moving into Saturday, as the system moves toward Alberta.
The alert says more snow is expected near the Cariboo Mountains, with lower snowfall amounts in Quesnel and Williams Lake.
In addition to the heavy snow, the alert says the low pressure system will also bring strong winds to the region, beginning Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday. Combined with falling snow, these winds may further reduce visibility.
Drivers are urged to adjust their driving to changing road conditions and check DriveBC for road conditions.
South of Williams Lake, weather in 100 Mile House is expected to remain partly cloudy overnight, with periods of snow starting at noon Friday. Overnight Friday, Environment Canada says there may be between two to four centimetres of snow and ice pellets.
