On March 12, the Smithers RCMP received a report just before 4:00 p.m. of two overdue snowmobilers, last seen in the popular backcountry recreation area near Telkwa, known as the Microwave Ridge. Though dressed for the weather conditions, the 31-year-old men were reportedly not prepared for overnight winter conditions.

The RCMP contacted B.C. Emergency Coordination Centre and Bulkley Valley Search and Rescue (BVSR). Just after 7:00 p.m. the BVSR confirmed with the RCMP that the snowmobilers had been located and were safe.

The RCMP would like to remind those venturing into the backcountry for recreation to please use caution and to also make contingency plans for when things go wrong. They also recommend that you let someone know where you are going and when to expect your return. Emergency beacons, communication devices, extra supplies and clothing are also things to consider.
