Salmon fisheries are still doing well on the Alberni Inlet and surrounding waters this early in the season, Department of Fisheries and Oceans resource manager Mike Spence said.
Sockeye in Great Central Lake and Sproat Lake are in the abundant range, according to DFO numbers.
Recreational sockeye fishery limits are at four per day, Spence said. Sockeye limits in the tidal areas of the Somass River remain at two per person per day.
“We’re having full fishing plans for everyone,” he added. “That means commercial, recreational and First Nations.”
While Spence emphasized that fishing plans can and do change weekly, he said that the current standardized June fishing schedule has the area D commercial gillnetters fishing every Tuesday from 6–8 p.m.
Area B seine fishers are scheduled to start in the coming week but limits and regulations won’t be released till Friday.
