Sold! Rotary Auction raises funds for local projects

The annual Rotary Auction takes place this weekend

  • Nov. 20, 2015 6:00 p.m.

Rotary Clubs all over the world are known for their international projects, like providing clean water to remote villages in South America, or working to eradicate polio in every country around the world.

But are you aware of the impact Rotary Clubs have on a local scale?

For 41 years, the Campbell River Rotary TV Auction has been supporting a variety of projects and groups throughout Campbell River. This year’s auction takes place today and tomorrow.

What was initially conceived as a way to fund the building of “Our Place” has since expanded to an annual fundraising event that is comprised of a weekend long televised and on-line live auction.

Often people wonder where the proceeds from the auction go.

The simple answer is: back into enhancing Campbell River as a community. The most notable and largest project lately has been the design and creation of the Elk Falls Suspension Bridge. But there have been other large projects from past years including the Maritime Heritage Centre, the Rotary Sea Walk and the construction of the Pier, just to name a few.  Campbell River Rotary also gives in smaller but equally significant ways. Just this summer a donation was given to Teen Flight to promote the building of an aircraft by local high school aeronautics students – the only program of its kind in B.C.

Over 600 items valued at over $120,000 will be auctioned on SHAW Cable 4 and streaming live at RotaryTVAuction.com from 6 to 10:30 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. tomorrow.
