On the first scorching summer weekend of the year, with temperatures in the 30 degree Celsius range, some 12,000 fans filed through the gates at the inaugural Keloha music festival.
The three-day event brought acts from across Canada and a couple of international success stories—California’s AWOLNATION and Welsh band The Joy Formidable.
Put on by Wet Ape Productions, the event marks the second major festival for the company, which is now heading into its sixth year of producing the Centre of Gravity for extreme sport and music enthusiasts.
Wet Ape has dabbled in major concert events beyond the festival scene, bringing in DJs like Deadmau5 and Tiesto. Unlike previous beach festivals in Kelowna, the company’s events have largely gone off without security problems. Founder, Scott Emslie, has said he takes a family friendly approach to the planning and spends up to a year organizing security contingencies, working with the City of Kelowna and Kelowna RCMP.
