Northern Health announced this morning that they called a Code Orange following an explosion at Babine Forest Products in Burns Lake. The Code Orange, issued at 10:52 p.m., on Jan. 20, extended from Prince George to Smithers.
Northern Health mobilized doctors, staff and supplies through the Highway 16 corridor from the University Hospital of Northern B.C. and Smithers.
Two patients remain in the Bulkley Valley District Hospital here in Smithers, Northern Health reports.
Nineteen patients were treated through Northern Health with a range of injuries, from minor to critical, including severe burns. Four patients have been airlifted from Prince George, two went to Edmonton and two went to Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver.
Eight patients were transferred to Prince George’s hospital, and one of those patients will be transferrred to a Vancouver hospital but is reportedly in stable condition.
The remaining patients from the incident have been discharged and the Code Orange has been downgraded.
Northern Health is thankful to everyone, from doctors to nurses to emergency responders, who worked tirelessly in response to this incident.
