After everyone was done thanking the various advisory committees of White Rock city council for their efforts, Mayor Wayne Baldwin last month promised a review that could reduce their number and restrict what the rest are allowed to consider.
Baldwin spoke after the committees’ year-end reports were filed with council during the Jan. 23 meeting.
The mayor joined the rest of council in thanking the members of the advisory bodies for their efforts, then said there would be changes designed to make the system of committees more efficient.
“We will tailor the committees to the goals of council,” Baldwin said.
After the meeting, Baldwin said the review could see some committees shut down or merged with others. There would also be steps taken to keep committees from taking on issues that aren’t part of their mandate.
“Sometimes, they go off on a tangent,” Baldwin noted.
The “select committees” that advise council include groups devoted to cultural, environmental and transportation issues.
