Sooke Fire Rescue is getting equipment upgrades.
First is a new compressor from Aquatech West in the amount of $49,490.50, which would replace an old unit that currently does not meet current standards for firefighting equipment.
This compressor will accommodate a 2017 Ford F450 crew truck with an Intercontinental nine-foot landscape dump box, to be purchased from the lowest bidder, Suburban Motors. The truck has the capacity to carry the snow plow and salter, increasing its efficiency, a staff report noted.
Additional options of steel decking over the wooden base of the dump box ($815) to improve durability and an under-body storage box ($540) to increase versatility were offered, and district staff recommended an additional $1,355 be spent on upgrades for a total of $58,741.
