The B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died following a fatal fall from an upper parking lot at the Sooke Potholes Regional Park on Saturday night.

She was Alysha Buzzeo, aged 28, of Sooke.

The B.C. Coroners Service said in a press release that Ms. Buzzeo and her spouse were sitting on a rocky ledge, covered with dry grass and moss, overlooking the Sooke Potholes. When she got to her feet, she lost her footing and fell 12 meters to the rocks below.

She was deceased at the scene.

A call was sent out to local fire and rescue services around 8:20 p.m. for a rescue of a person who’d fallen down a short trail from the upper parking lot, just northwest of the old resort ruins, said interim Sooke fire chief Russ Cameron.

“Unfortunately upon arrival of our crew for a rescue, the person was determined deceased by the police and the B.C. Ambulance Service,” Cameron said.

Cameron added that the woman’s body was recovered with the help of the B.C. Coroner Service, Sooke and Metchosin Fire Rescue crews.

The B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP are continuing their investigation.
