South Surrey arts-tower advice on agenda

A recommendation for how to operate the arts component of a development proposed for South Surrey is to be shared Tuesday.

A recommendation for how to operate the arts component of a development proposed for 19 Avenue and 152 Street in South Surrey is to be shared Tuesday (Jan. 20) at Surrey City Hall.

Sheila McKinnon, the city’s arts manager, said Vancouver-based consultant Lori Baxter will be on hand at a 3 p.m. meeting of the culture development advisory committee, to share what she gleaned from attendees of a meeting on the subject held in South Surrey last week.

Baxter was hired last June to research governance options for a proposed theatre, contemporary arts space and café. The space was presented as part of a proposal to build more than 300 residential units in two highrises. An update on the proposal’s status as a whole was not available by Peace Arch News press deadline Wednesday.

When last presented to the public, the arts component included the shell of a 350-seat performing arts centre and a contemporary arts centre café/gallery.

Tuesday’s meeting is open to the public. Surrey City Hall is located at 13450 104 Ave.
