SURREY — Someone shot a bullet through a window at East Kensington elementary school in South Surrey but police don’t know who did it or why.
Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said school staff arrive at work this Wednesday morning to find a bullet hole in a window and a bullet on the floor.
Schumann said police have no witnesses or suspects and no reason to suspect the school was deliberately targeted. The bullet was seized by forensic identification officers for examination.
“The school might not have even been the target,” Schumann said.
Doug Strachan, the Surrey school district’s spokesman, said police told the school that the bullet was likely fired from a distance.
“It’s a very rural area,” he said. “The police said there’s not risk to the school.”
Strachan said the school is informing parents about it through the principal’s online newsletter rather than sending a letter home with students, in an effort to avoid anxiety among the children.
