One point has been added, another amended, to the Township of Spallumcheen’s complaint policy.
Previously, there were three items where complaints with respect to bylaw infractions would only be pursued.
After deliberations with staff, council added a fourth item: the complaint is reviewed by the chief administrative officer (CAO) and determined to be an obvious and urgent health and safety matter.
“It was proposed that wording be added to the policy,” said Greg Betts, the township’s CAO.
A second point was clarified. Infractions will now only be pursued if there are two separate complaints from two separate properties filed. The remainder of the point, if the complainant resides on a property directly affected by or adjacent to the offending property where no other neighbours exist.
The other points about the complainant filing a complaint in writing to the township, and the complaint initiated by municipal management with consultation/consent from the CAO prior to it being referred to the bylaw enforcement officer for investigation, remain unchanged in the policy.
