The province has committed cash toward helping dissolve a number of water districts within Spallumcheen.
The township will receive $100,000 as part of a joint water initiative, announced late in 2013, with Armstrong.
“The funds certainly reinforces that the province supports our initiatives,” said chief administrative officer Greg Betts.
In a letter to council, Community Development Minister Coralee Oakes committed $60,000 to assist with administrative costs associated with the dissolution and transfer of six improvement districts that have existing water agreements with Armstrong, have requested conversion to a municipal service or are experiencing water quality issues.
The township will receive $10,000 for each of the Highland Park, Lansdowne, Otter Lake, Silver Star, Stardel and Stepney improvement districts to support conversion, provided Spallumcheen secures consent from each of the districts’ boards supporting conversion to a municipal service.
In her letter, Oakes said for those improvement districts that have not already provided the township with engineering reports on their physical infrastructure, the province will offer a total of $40,000 to help facilitate the implementation of the water strategy.
