Spallumcheen accident results in injuries to Kelowna girl

Driver of car, believed to be the girl's father, tested for impairment and police say the driver blew twice the legal limit

A Kelowna man is in trouble after a single-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Spallumcheen resulted in minor injuries to an eight-year-old girl passenger, believed to be the man’s daughter.

Shortly after 4 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of an accident in the area of Swanson Mountain Road and Salmon River Road.

“Our officers quickly determined an eight-year-old girl received minor injuries, including a bump on the head and a sore shoulder,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“The driver, a 45-year-old Kelowna man, had a noticeable odour of liquor on him.”

The girl was taken to Vernon Jubliee Hospital by ambulance to be checked out and her mother was contacted. Mom came to pick up the girl.

The driver was taken to the Armstrong detachment where samples of his breath were obtained that exceeded twice the legal limit.

He has been released on a promise to appear in court on April 2.
