Blue recycling bags will still dot the Spallumcheen landscape.
The township announced Tuesday it had reached a one-year agreement with the Regional District of North Okanagan and Tip-It Waste Solutions to provide blue bag curbside recycling.
The deal is effective until May 18, 2015.
“There will be no change to pick-up dates or materials that can be provided,” said township chief financial officer Brian Freeman-Marsh.
On Monday, Multi Material B.C. (MMBC) assumed the responsibility for residential curbside recycling for the regional district except in the township.
Spallumcheen staff had been investigating ways to continue residential curbside recycling after Monday.
On Tuesday, the deal was announced.
Township administrator Greg Betts said council was faced with two choices as the MMBC program drew closer: try to get into MMBC next year, or continue on and pay the price for a one-year extension, which is what council opted to do.
The move will cost taxpayers $39.05 for the year, up from $17.61 in 2013, an increase of $21.44 or less than $2 per month.
The township is anticipating MMBC will take over curbside recycling at the end of the new agreement.
