Two groups are making strides toward a new trail in Spallumcheen.
The Armstrong Spallumcheen Trails Society and the Township of Spallumcheen will explore the possibility of adding phase two of the East Rosedale Trail.
“They (society) had three priority items and we felt it was best to focus on one,” said township administrator Corey Paiement.
“No. 1 on the list is a trail between the west end of Whitaker Road and Rosedale East.”
Added Coun. Christine Fraser: “It means we’re looking into the beginning steps to see if it’s doable.”
Letters were sent out to property owners along the proposed trail area explaining the feasability study.
Request denied

The township’s application for a New Building Canada Fund– Small Communities Fund grant to help upgrade Pleasant Valley Road was turned down.
“The program will have a second application intake,” wrote Patrick Livolsi with the Small Communities Fund. “The date of this intake has not been determined.”
Paiement said there were 165 applications of which 55 received funding.
“There were 47 out of the 55 that went to water and sewer projects and eight were for transportation-related projects,” said Paiment.
The township is expected to make a second application.
Building big
Building permits in the township are double what they were a year ago.
Statistics released by the Regional District of North Okanagan show 30 permits have been issued to date in 2015 in the township worth $5,217,064.
Through the same period in 2014, there were 23 permits issued worth $2,606,705.
In July, seven permits were issued worth just shy of $600,000.
That compares to three in 2014 in the same month worth $142,640.
