The District of Sparwood announced the completion of a new archery range located at the Sparwood Golf Club.
The new archery range, which boasts 10 targets across 70 yards, will have its grand opening ceremony at 6:00 pm on August 25, 2021 with a by-donation barbecue hosted by the Sparwood Fish and Wildlife Association.
BC Games silver medalist Lane Ogden will participate in a ceremonial “ribbon shoot” along with other local youth archers, which will then be followed by discussions, demonstrations and a youth shoot.
The new $60,000 archery range was a gift from Youth Action Sparwood and managed by the Sparwood FIsh and Wildlife Association Archery Committee.
Sparwood Mayor David Wilkes said the new range is a great addition for the community.
“The opening of the Sparwood Archery Range is yet another example of volunteers coming together,” said Wilkes.
“This provides yet another great facility for those who are or would like to learn about the sport of archery.”
Members of the Sparwood Fish and Wildlife Association will have free use of the range, and the range will address the needs of youth – archery was the second highest activity of interest expressed by Sparwood youth aged 12 to 18 in a 2018 survey.
The district committed a grant-in-aid to start fundraising, gave legal and project management support and passed a bylaw allowing the archery range in the area.
