Sparwood’s very own cannabis store will be opening in Centennial Square this week.
Elk Valley Cannabis will be the only cannabis store in the northern half of the Elk Valley, based in Sparwood and delivering to the entire valley.
Owner and general manager, Ryan Swayze said it was a long time coming.
“We are super excited to be able to serve the community from July 2.
“It’s taken a little bit of time, but we’re excited to be here and to get things moving.”
Located right in the middle of town in Centennial Square, Elk Valley Cannabis is the first cannabis store to open in the valley outside of Fernie, which had its first store open back in August 2019.
For the grand opening on July 2, Swayze said they were going to celebrate with free swag for everyone and an opening day giveaway.
Hours for the store will be 10:30am to 10:30 pm seven days a week.
Sparwood’s district council voted in favour of allowing Elk Valley Cannabis to open doors in Sparwood back in February 2021 with a majority of council support, and a 50-50 split in community feedback.
The new business has brought with it five new local jobs, with more job openings available in the future when Elk Valley Cannabis looks to begin home delivery from July 17.
