Various agri-businesses collaborated to host a day-long Beef Producer Seminar in Williams Lake on Dec. 6 and the large conference room (Pioneer Complex) was jammed to capacity; the great response perhaps attributable to the early-RSVP (by Nov. 25) promise, which gave each registrant an entry in a draw to win a Honda ATV (sponsored by Dow AgroSciences — entry deadline Nov. 30 — draw date/Dec. 31, 2011). Speakers on the day included this group of gentlemen (left to right); Kris Wierenga (Viterra Feed Nutritionist), John McCurrach (owner, Purity Feed Ltd.-Kamloops), Dick Ford (owner, Highlands Irrigation), Rogan Robson (Professional Agrologist / Purity Feed Ltd.) and Andrew Petersen (MOA — regional resource specialist) along with (not pictured) Lisa Jarret (Dow AgroSciences), Emily Sonntag (CRD regional manager) and Natalie Borkowski (CRD).

A lot of useful information was covered by the speakers. Information on various topics included beef nutrition, aerial helicopter pasture-seeding, irrigation systems/technology, guidelines/applications/proper use of herbicide products, weeds/invasive plant species and more. All the speakers and attendees also enjoyed a great lunch (catered by CJ’s Southerwestern Grill/sponsored by agri-businesses) and there were many, many door prizes handed out. It was just like Christmas.
