Jay Morrison of Spectra Energy presented at the regular council meeting for the District of Kent on Feb. 15. The purpose of his delegation was to provide an update of the Spectra Energy General Operations project.
Spectra will be working on Compressor Station 9 Upgrades, which will make equipment upgrades to Compressor Station 9 at Rosedale, 4.5 km south of Agassiz on the Cheam Reserve.
“A gas compressor station moves natural gas through a pipeline. To flow efficiently, natural gas, must be compressed and pushed at certain points along a pipeline system,” according to Morrison’s report.
Morrison informed council that the new compressor unit will replace the existing aged compressors that are at the end of their service life.
“The work is part of the equipment upgrade requirements that come with operating a safe and reliable natural gas pipeline system,” said Morrison.
Benefits of the project include the addition of a new compressor unit and a gas cooler which will undertake additional facility work.
The new compressor unit will be “more efficient, quiet, and produce less emissions.”
Construction is scheduled for the beginning of spring 2017 with the expectation that work will be completed by summer 2018.
