The grad class at Spectrum Community School is staging a fashion show in support of its first-ever dry grad event.
On Thursday, April 12, students will model 96 outfits from local retailers while dance students supply the entertainment.
Included in the $20 ticket price are desserts, provided by the school’s culinary arts students, beverages and more than $1,000 in door prizes and giveaways.
The fashion show is just the latest in a string of efforts to raise some $17,000 for Spectrum’s dry grad “extravaganza,” an all-night alcohol-free party at Langford’s City Centre Park. The school’s roughly 300 Grade 12 students continue to host bottle drives and sell garden products to pay for the event, which, including entertainment, prizes and recreation centre activities, comes in at $25,000.
“We’ve heard of stuff – very bad things – happening on grad night,” said Marcus Clayton, one of Spectrum’s two valedictorians. “Why not keep everybody together for the entire night?
“It’s the last hurrah of school and we didn’t want anything to happen to any one of our friends.”
Tickets for tomorrow’s fashion show are available through the school at 250-479-8271. Contact Fiona Goudy for more information on dry grad and the fundraising effort at frgoudy@gmail.com.
