A high-speed chase of a stolen pickup truck through Lac La Hache led to one man being arrested Tuesday morning.

RCMP say that at about 9:40 a.m., members of the Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services Unit noted a suspicious male enter a black 1995 Dodge pickup near the 108 Mile House rest area.

Members checked the status of the vehicle and found it was flagged as stolen.

A member in a marked police vehicle then pulled behind the truck that was parked against a dirt berm and turned its emergency lights on.

The truck started and sprayed the police car with rocks as it climbed the small berm.

It headed north at speeds of up to 150 kilometres per hour. Members activated the emergency equipment and continued in the direction of the pickup.

A spike belt was deployed north of Lac La Hache.

The Williams Lake Canine Unit was in the area, and when the spike belt brought the truck to a halt, the police dog was on the scene and apprehended the suspect.

He was arrested and transported to the 100 Mile House detachment.

The suspect’s name is being withheld, as charges for possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and breach of probation (times two) are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
