Sports complex costs cut

The referendum figure is set at $7.5 million, down from the original $8.5 million

The figures have been adjusted for a proposed sports complex.

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee trimmed $1 million from the budget package Thursday. That means the total borrowing cost has gone from $8.5 million to up to $7.5 million.

“It’s a reflection of the total amount that will go to referendum but it doesn’t mean we will spend that amount,” said Mike Macnabb, chairperson.

The goal is for user groups to fundraiser for some items and GVAC officials hope some construction tenders will come in less than expected.

Among the items that were reduced Thursday were off-site works like curbs and sidewalks and a covered seating area.
