A much anticipated project is proceeding in Enderby.
The Enderby and District Services Commission has awarded a $155,649 contract for designing and building the Barnes Park spray park.
“People have been waiting a long time for this to move ahead,” said Denis Delisle, commission chairperson.
The old spray park was decommissioned in 2011 because of a number of safety concerns.
Since then, there has been community fundraising to reopen the park while the commission has budgeted funds — $264,000 for phase one in 2017.
The goal is for construction to start soon and the water park to be open Aug. 1.
“We’re really happy to see the project moving ahead in a bigger and better way for the community,” said Tate Bengtson, chief administrative officer.
Planning project
The Enderby and District Services Commission has launched the second phase of its master parks plan process.
A key part of the process is community engagement.
“People will see a survey soon and we look forward to seeing the ideas they put forward,” said Tate Bengtson, chief administrative officer.
One item that could be on the agenda is Grindrod Community Park.
It’s a campground layout and we’re not sure how people feel about that,” said Denis Delisle, commission chairperson.
