Spreading positivity in Burns Lake

Chamber contest encourages residents to share positive shopping experiences

A Burns Lake customer recently went to Woods N’ Water looking for a product, but the product was not carried in store.

Instead of simply saying that they didn’t have the product, the Woods N’ Water attendant did some research and was able to order the product for the customer.

“They went the extra step, did some research and got it in for them,” said Jordanna Evans, manager of the Burns Lake and District Chamber of Commerce. “It really goes to show you that they care about their customers and are willing to go above and beyond.”

That’s one of the stories that the chamber has been receiving since it launched the ‘Burns Lake biz positive shopping experience contest.’

“The idea behind the contest is simply to get some positivity flowing by getting people to share their positive shopping experiences,” said Evans. “It seems more often a bad experience is shared than a good one, and with social media, it’s so easy for someone to quickly share a bad experience, which creates negativity in the community.”

Evans said caring and compassionate businesses have always been a part of Burns Lake’s history.

“We want to focus on the good experiences by sharing positive stories and showing some appreciation and love for our businesses that go above and beyond,” she said. “It is a big morale booster to be recognized for a job well done.”

Residents are encouraged to post their positive shopping experiences on the chamber’s Facebook page or to e-mail them to media@burnslakechamber.com until Dec. 15, 2016 at noon.

Participants can search for inspiration by answering the question, “Has a Burns Lake business done something in 2016 to make my local shopping experience incredible?”

If your name is drawn, you will be notified to pick up your prize at the chamber’s office before 4 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2016.

“The prize is a surprise,” said Evans.
