The weather is starting to warm up, and that means there could be more than just frogs and salamanders coming out of hibernation in local area parks.
The warm weather is also rousing thieves, who have begun to get active in parking lots at the area’s natural attractions.
Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said police were alerted to a report of a theft from a vehicle parked at Englishman River Falls provincial park over the weekend.
“A woman parked her truck and went into the park for about an hour,” he said. “When she returned she found her window broken and her purse, wallet and other personal items had been taken.”
In a second incident, a visitor to Cathedral Grove parked the vehicle, went for a 20-minute walk and returned to find the back window smashed and a purse stolen.
“The weather is warming up and people are starting to go on these walks,” he said.
“When they do, they shouldn’t leave any valuables in their car.”
