Stamp Avenue in Port Alberni will be closed to regular traffic as of 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 due to the annual Thunder in the Valley drag racing event.
Volunteers with the Alberni Valley Drag Racing Association need time to set up for Thunder in the Valley, which takes place Aug. 10–12 on Stamp Avenue. This is the third year the races have taken place in the middle of the city.

The weekend kicks off with the show n’ shine at Harbour Quay; gates open at 4 p.m. for cars to register, and 5–8 p.m. for spectators. Harbour Quay will be closed to vehicle traffic except for registered cars.
A burnout contest is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at the burnout box on the track. There is a cost to register and spectators pay $5 to come and watch.
Racing takes place Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, Aug. 12.

Boston Pizza is hosting a drive-in movie starting at 7 p.m. (the movie will start at 9:15 p.m.) on Friday, Aug. 10, where it’s rumoured The Fate of the Furious will be screened.
Tickets to the races are $20 per day or $35 for the weekend per person. Children under 12 are admitted for free with an adult.
