A bottle of what appeared to be vodka was stolen from a house during a break and enter on Stone Avenue over the February 26 weekend, but Lake Cowichan RCMP are warning the culprits that it is not vodka.
It is rat poison.
“If anyone knows anything about this break and enter, don’t drink the vodka,” Lake Cowichan RCMP Cpl. Krista Hobday said.
Local police suspect that this break and enter is related to another one that occurred on Stone Avenue, Saturday, February 26. During this incident, a neighbour’s call into 911 resulted in quick RCMP response, and promptly got hold of a K-9 unit. Within the span of an hour, the dog tracked three youth suspects to their home, where they were taken into custody.
The youth have since been released to their parents.
Hobday said that messages have been left on the parents’ answering machines in hopes that they’ll prevent the kids from drinking the rat poison. In the event that they are unrelated incidents, though, she’s now warning people about the misleading vodka bottle.
Later on last week, the Gazette contact Hobday again to find out if the vodka had turned up, and she confirmed that is has not. As such, the warning stands to not drink said vodka bottle of rat poison.
The corporal is hopeful that the thieves have already disposed of the rat poison properly.
The week started off as a busy one for local RCMP. Monday, February 28, had police looking into a case of missing hikers, toward the Nitinat area. They were found, having arrived at their destination later than expected. This was in addition to a number of motor vehicle incidents they attended throughout the week.
